Admission process for the IITs
The IIT JEE consists of 2 Tests viz. JEE Main Test and Advanced Test which test problem solving ability in basic science subjects - Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. IIT JEE Main Test is for 3 Hrs. while IIT JEE Advanced has two tests of 3 Hrs. each.
Only the top 2,50,000 (approx.) candidates (including all categories) based on the performance in JEE Main will qualify to appear in the JEE Advanced examination, provided the candidates are among the top 20% high scorers of their respective boards or have atleast scored 75% in Std. XII board examination.
As the above selection pattern gives a substantial importance to the Std. XII Board marks, it is very essential that every student prepares well not only for the IIT JEE, but for Std. XII also.
Admission process for the NITs, IIITs and BIT (Ranchi)
NITs, IIITs and BIT (Ranchi) give admissions on the basis of a student's performance in the JEE Main. Admissions to these Institutes will be purely on the basis of JEE Main Ranks. All India rank for NITs, IIITs and BIT (Ranchi) will be given separately.
Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) from 2019.
As per JEE Main 2023 pattern declared by NTA, the National level exam will be conducted twice a year (January and April) in ONLINE (computer based) mode. Candidates can appear in either of the two or both
JEE Main is conducted for Engineering (Paper 1 – B.E./ B.Tech.) and Architecture (Paper 2 – B.Arch./ B.Planning) streams. (Top 2.5 lakh rank holders in JEE Main are eligible to appear for next phase i.e. JEE Advanced, offering admissions to UG programs by IITs.)
Engineering aspirants will appear for only Paper 1 which comprises of 20 MCQ type of questions & 5 questions with answers as numerical value in Physics, Chemistry and Maths each. The duration of the exam will be 180 Minutes. JEE Main will be 300 Marks exam wherein each question carries 4 marks and for every incorrect attempt, 1 mark will be deducted.
Admission process for the BITSAT
The Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani, is a deemed University which offers Degree Engineering Courses at its Pilani campus, Goa campus, Hyderabad campus & (Except Dubai campus). The admission in these institutes to its Degree Engineering Programs is through BITSAT. The aspiring candidate must have passed the final examination of 10 + 2 system or its equivalent, with a paper each in Physics, Chemistry and Maths, with adequate proficiency in English. Further, the candidate should have obtained a minimum of aggregate 75% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in Std.XII exam, with at least 60% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics each. Direct admission is given to the students who are Std. XII Board toppers.
BITSAT is a 390 marks exam and has negative marking scheme. The test is of 3 hrs. duration and it consists of 130 questions. 3 marks are awarded for each correct answer and 1 mark deducted for each incorrect answer. The test consist of 30 questions from Physics and Chemistry each, 40 questions of Mathematics, 10 questions of English proficiency and 20 questions on Logical Reasoning.
Admission process for the Government and Private Engineering Colleges in Maharashtra
Government and Private Colleges of Maharashtra admissions are on the basis of a student's performance in the Maharashtra Common Entrance Test. Admission to 15% seats in Private Engineering Colleges is through JEE Main. MHT-CET exam is conducted in online mode. It consists of MCQ based questions and the time duration to solve these is 180 minutes. Engineering aspirants are required to appear for Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics group.
MHT-CET PCM paper will consist of Physics - 50 questions of 1 mark each, Chemistry - 50 questions of 1 mark each and Maths - 50 questions of 2 marks each. This means MHT-CET exam (PCM) will be of 200 marks and there will be No Negative Marking.
Approximately, 20% weightage will be given to 11th standard syllabus and 80% to 12th standard syllabus while setting the question paper. Difficulty level of MHT-CET will be at par with JEE Main examination.
The candidate should have obtained a minimum of 45% marks in Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry / Vocational subject in Std.XII exam.
