Under Graduate Studies

 

A University or a College in the United States is normally called as a "School". After completing the High School (a twelve year program) i.e. 10 + 2, students are eligible to take admission into a four year undergraduate program or post-secondary education in the liberal arts (Bachelor of Arts - B.A, Bachelor of Fine Arts - B.F.A) and Sciences - B.S. A Bachelor’s degree Course is called Under-Graduate program.

In most of the universities, the average class size, at the under-graduate level is about 100 to 120. 

 

Eligibility :

Entrance Exams

1.         SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test)

 

There are 2 SAT exams -

      SAT - 1 is a general examination, which is mandatory for applying to any Undergraduate program.

      SAT- 2 is a subject test demanded by certain universities for some specialized courses, e.g., admission into a Medical College, etc.

        

      Acceptable scores on these tests vary from university to university and depend upon the course the student is applying to.

      SAT is a paper based test.

 

2.         TOEFL - iBT (Test of English as a Foreign Language)

 

·     The TOEFL score must show that the applicant is sufficiently proficient in English to pursue the intended course of study.

·     A minimum score of 80 out of 120 is a criterion for many universities.

·     All Asian candidates although they have studied throughout in English medium are required to take this test.

It is administrated by College Board which is a US based Educational Institute.

 

What is the structure of SAT ?

The SAT is a 3¾-hour exam.

      The forms will be available online on www.collegeboard.com or can be collected from USEFI (U.S. Education Foundation in India)

 

     What is the cost ? 

     The test cost is $43* (Includes fee for reporting scores to 4 Universities).

       *  Fee is subject to change

 

    When is the test conducted ? 

    SAT is conducted in Jan, April, May, June, Oct, Nov and Dec. in the given cities only.

What is the validity of the test ? 

The validity of the test is two years.
