Vidyalankar organized for its CAT and CET students a two day workshop, on
the 27th and 28th of October. The speaker was Prof.
Arun Sharma: B.E., PGDM, IIM [Bangalore] who is the author of
Complete CAT Digest published by Vidyalankar & Mc Graw-Hill.
Arun Sharma therein delivered lectures, answered questions in great details,
and emphasized upon the methodology of learning for the CAT and the CET.
Having appeared for CAT ten times and successfully qualifying it, all the 10
times, he probably was the right choice whom Vidyalankar invited.
He gave a detailed analysis of the questions that appear at the CAT examination and commented upon its unpredictability i.e. the changing of its pattern on the number of questions asked every year, the type of questions asked, and the topics that need to be emphasized upon by the students. He offered strategies for cracking problems of Data Interpretation that involve systematic and logical devices. He also suggested various time-saving techniques.
Traditional Data Interpretation questions need more of calculations and are concept oriented. But of recent there seems to be a marked emphasis upon the logical thought involved. He analyzed the Quantitative section that is divided usually in six major parts in which 25% of the questions appear from the Number Systems and Progression and nearly 50% questions are from Geometry, Mensuration, Algebra Functions logarithms Quadratic Equations and Inequalities.
He focused on easy methods to calculate, told the students about the right approach to Data Interpretation problems, suggested methods to budget time rightly, and importantly discussed various methods to face the CAT / CET and overcome the last minute nervousness.
He offered some crucial strategies to overcome and successfully solve some nagging / vexing unmanageable problems. A student should also try to understand what kind of problems are within one’s reach, or beyond him/her. It is difficult to learn a language like English overnight. So one has to practice a lot, i.e. strive hard, for maintaining accuracy, and speed in English. Though induced errors should be avoided Mr. Sharma felt a flow chart should be made in order to save time.
According to Arun Sharma, majority of the students fail because of lack of knowledge itself or because of ineffective application of their knowledge. He discussed at length the type of mistakes made by the students.
On the whole, Mr. Sharma offered some extremely useful tips to students aspiring to appear for the CAT and CET exams, offering techniques to acquire a 90+ percentile.
In collaboration with Vidyalankar, the entire program was found to help the students realize their dream of ‘IIMs’ into a reality.
This time also, the students response was overwhelming and the entire program was a great success.
Vidyalankar in association with Prof. Arun Sharma will conduct in the month December -07 & January -08 several such sessions for the CET -08 & CAT -08 aspirants. You may feel free to approach any of our branches for any further information.
